Madison — Today Governor Walker issued Executive Order #44, following through on a promise to create a Whitetail Deer Trustee who will review and evaluate Wisconsin’s deer herd management practices.

“It is vitally important that hunters, sportsmen and women and conservationists trust the state to be a partner in helping to effectively sustain our deer populations,” said Governor Walker.  “I am issuing this executive order to ensure they have confidence in Wisconsin’s deer herd management practices.”

Under this Executive Order the Department of Natural Resources is directed to retain an independent expert with recognized scientific credentials and demonstrated experience in the field of Whitetail Deer management to review Wisconsin’s deer management practices as Whitetail Deer Trustee.  This individual will provide an independent, objective, and scientifically based review of Wisconsin’s deer management practices.
