Madison – Governor Scott Walker appointed Jennifer Harper to serve as Richland County District Attorney today.

"One of the most basic functions of government is to enforce our laws to protect and serve the public," said Governor Scott Walker. "With this appointment I am confident that we will be able to deliver justice to those criminals and individuals who chose not to follow the law." 

Jennifer Harper has a wealth of experience necessary for a successful district attorney.  For the past eleven years she has served as an Assistant District Attorney.  She has served in that role in Richland, Monroe, and Sauk counties.  In this role she has prosecuted thousands of criminal cases.   In addition, since 2008 she has been a Richland County Circuit Court Commissioner, presiding over approximately 530 hearings.  She has also worked as an Attorney Law Clerk with Judge Leineweber of Richland County Circuit Court, and as an Assistant Corporation Counsel to Richland County.  Harper is the President of Richland County Court and Community, a non-profit organization that seeks to educate the general public on the work of the county’s circuit court.  She is also a member of the Richland County Bar Association.   

Harper earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and in Political Science from Indiana University.  She earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Wisconsin Law School.
