Green Bay – Governor Scott Walker signed Assembly Bill 427 today at Aurora BayCare Medical Center in Green Bay. The bill relates to the prescription, dispensing, and delivery of opioid antagonists.
Assembly Bill 427 – This bill allows practitioners to prescribe an opioid antagonist, or a drug which counteracts the effects of an overdose of opioids such as heroin and prescription narcotics, to one or more pharmacies under a standing order. The bill additionally enables pharmacists to deliver opioid antagonists to an individual at risk for an opioid overdose, or to an individual in a position to assist an individual at risk for overdose, which ensures that the people of Wisconsin have greater access to potentially life-saving opioid antagonists, such as Narcan. Authored by Representative John Nygren (R – Marinette) and Senator Alberta Darling (R – River Hills), the bill passed the Assembly on a voice vote and was concurred by the Senate on a voice vote. It is Act 115.
