Madison — Governor Scott Walker and First Lady Tonette Walker released a web video today welcoming students, parents, teachers, and school staff back to a new school year.  The web video can be viewed at the following link.

“We want to thank all of the teachers, who dedicate their incredible talents to inspiring our kids and helping them get the skills they need for a career or to move on to college,”  Governor Walker said, kicking off the 2012-13 school year.

“We want to encourage parents all across Wisconsin to join us and play an active role in your kid’s education.”  Mrs. Walker added.

Governor Walker’s reforms allow schools to hire based on merit and pay based on performance.  The Governor’s education initiative includes Read to Lead, a plan focusing efforts on ensuring all kids learn to read at grade level by the end of 3rd grade.

The Walkers have two sons.  Alex is a senior at Wauwatosa East High School.  Matt is a college freshman at Marquette.
