1. Happy New Year!

Governor Scott Walker and First Lady Tonette Walker wished the people of Wisconsin a Happy New Year.

“2017 was a great year for the State of Wisconsin, as we passed historic investments in education, signed the largest economic development project in state history, and employed more people than ever before. The future of our state is bright. Today, as individuals across the state and country gather with family and friends, we wish you and your family a blessed, happy, and healthy New Year.”

2. Record Year for Economic Development

2017 was a historic year of economic development in Wisconsin! Governor Walker announced that the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) had a record year, as 59 companies from Wisconsin and around the world agreed to locate to or expand in Wisconsin. These projects are expected to create or retain nearly 30,000 jobs and result in more than $11.6 billion in capital investment across the state.

Governor Walker noted:

“When it comes to economic development, 2017 has been a historic year for Wisconsin as global companies such as Foxconn, Haribo and Nestle decided to establish operations in our great state after looking at many other options around the country.

At the same time, many of Wisconsin’s major employers – including Kwik Trip, Generac, Mills Fleet Farm and Johnsonville – announced major expansion plans this year because of our dedicated workforce and the strong pro-business climate we’ve created.”

The Wisconsin Department of Revenue released a video highlighting the favorable business climate and economic expansion in Wisconsin:

3. Tax Cuts for Wisconsin Families

The Governor released information from the Wisconsin Department of Revenue, which shows a $2,508 tax cut for the typical family of four in Wisconsin. This is following the passage of the Tax Cuts and Job Acts by the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate.

4. Wearing Red for the Badgers

In honor of the Wisconsin Badgers making it to the Orange Bowl, Governor Walker declared Saturday, December 30, 2017, Wear Wisconsin Badgers Red for the Orange Bowl Day. He and Florida Governor Rick Scott placed a friendly wager over the game with Governor Walker wagering an assortment of Wisconsin-made products including beer, cheese, cranberries, and HARIBO Gummi Candy and Governor Scott wagering Cuban croquetas from Florida’s Vicky Bakery.

Governor Walker proudly noted:

“We’re so confident in a Badgers victory that I am willing to wager some of my favorite Wisconsin-made products with my friend Governor Scott. We are also encouraging everyone to wear Badgers red tomorrow to show their support. On behalf of our entire state, Go Badgers!”
