During this holiday season, Governor and First Lady Tonette Walker would like to extend their thanks to the people of Wisconsin. It has been an exciting year for Wisconsin as we celebrate high employment rates, increased job opportunities, and massive gains in the manufacturing industry.

We wish you all a joy filled Christmas and New Year!

1. Governor Walker Wishes Wisconsin Families a Merry Christmas

Govenor Scott Walker and First Lady Tonette Walker released a video message wishing the people of Wisconsin a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.

“The Christmas season is a time like no other: friends and family join together to celebrate the joy of the holidays, reflect on our many blessings, and look to the future with hope and excitement.

As we gather around the tree, sing carols, or sneak one of Santa’s cookies, let’s also come together and take the time to celebrate our shared values, recognize our good fortunes, and enjoy our time with the people we love the most. We wish you all a Merry Christmas, and may you all be blessed with joy in the year ahead.”

2. Expanding Employment Opportunities

Governor Walker and the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development announced solid gains in employment for Wisconsin workers in 2017. In fact, Wisconsin’s unemployment rate dropped to 3.2%, and is at the lowest rate since 1999.

Additionally, the labor force participation rate is up to 68.9%, making Wisconsin the top state in the nation for the percentage of working age adults in the workforce – far outpacing the national rate of 62.7%.

Finally, Wisconsin continues to reach all-time highs for number of private sector jobs created. The state added 42,900 private-sector jobs from Nov ’16-’17, with a significant year-over-year gain of 16,900 manufacturing jobs.

These gains prove that Governor Walker’s reforms are providing increased employment opportunities for the people of Wisconsin.

3. A Celebration for Wisconsin’s 115th Fighter Wing

This week, the US Air Force announced that Wisconsin’s 115th Fighter Wing will receive the military’s newest fighter jets, the F-35, to replace the F-16s.

The new fighter jets will not only bolster the capabilities of the 115th Fighter Wing, but also secure jobs and other economic benefits for the state of Wisconsin. Above all, they represent the vital role that Wisconsin’s 115th Fighter wing play in the Air Force.

4. A Win for Manufacturing

While at the La Crosse Area Development Corporation 46th Annual Meeting, Governor Walker discussed economic growth and job creation.

Throughout 2017, the La Crosse region was home to many economic development projects, including DuraTech, Dynamic Recycling, and Kwik Trip. All have announced facility expansion projects that will result in hundreds of new jobs. However, these gains in manufacturing extend to the entire state of Wisconsin. Currently, Wisconsin ranks 2nd in the nation and 1st in the Midwest for year-over-year manufacturing jobs.

5. Visiting with Students

In the spirt of the holidays, the Governor hosted the Boys & Girls Club of Walworth County at the Executive Residence for a special holiday tour.
